OGDEN, Utah — One person and one horse were killed in a two-vehicle crash on state Route 39 in Ogden Canyon.

The incident happened near milepost 11 around 1:21 p.m. Friday.

Officials with the Utah Highway Patrol said a silver Subaru crossed into oncoming traffic — likely attempting to pass another vehicle — when it collided with a Ford F-350 that was pulling a horse trailer.

The impact caused the Subaru to then crash into the car it was trying to pass.

Officials said the driver of the Subaru died and one horse in the trailer had to be put down on the scene.

All others involved suffered only minor injuries, according to troopers.

Ogden Canyon was closed in both directions while crews investigated the scene.

S.R. 39 reopened to traffic around 5:45 p.m.
